Special Counsel for Intervention - Manila, Philippines
The Need
International Justice Mission (IJM) is seeking an experienced Filipino attorney to serve as Special Counsel for Intervention in Manila, Philippines. The qualified candidate will assist the Director of Legal Intervention in developing, coordinating and implementing IJM’s legal strategy.
Responsibilities
- Obtain tangible accountability for perpetrators and/or relief for victims in cases; concerning sexual abuse and/or exploitation of children and trafficking in persons;
- Act as private prosecutor in cases where it is necessary to assure the zealous prosecution of the accused in assigned cases;
- Attend and/or participate in all legal proceedings relevant to assigned cases;
- Perform legal research and draft pleadings as necessary in assigned cases;
- Preparation of reports in the case management system;
- Assist the Director of Legal Intervention in designing appropriate intervention strategies to achieve justice in the assigned cases;
- Conduct paralegal trainings and advocacy campaigns;
- Perform other related duties as required and necessary.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law or beyond;
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Filipino;
- Member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines;
- Two or more years of litigation experience;
- Strong leadership skills;
- Knowledge and expertise in Microsoft Word and Excel; and
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
