Determination of Department Assignment

Prior to accepting an IJM internship, candidates have the opportunity to speak with a member of their assigned department and ask in-depth questions about their role. With the exception of graduate students who have already committed to a specific field of study, IJM strongly encourages applicants to remain flexible regarding their department assignment. The DC intern program is structured to offer a beneficial experience, regardless of an intern's department assignment.

Although an applicant’s interest in a specific position will be taken into account, IJM generally ranks the top candidates, and then determines the most appropriate department position based on IJM’s needs and the candidates general strengths and interests. IJM intern alumni consistently report that the greatest benefits of an IJM internship experience derive from participating in joint seminars and activities, serving in the common cause of helping liberate the oppressed, and generally working and learning in a Christ-focused, business professional environment with IJM staff and fellow interns.
