The Mission
The mission of International Justice Mission is to protect people from violent forces of injustice by securing rescue and restoration for victims and ensuring public justice systems work for the poor.
The Need
International Justice Mission (IJM) is a dynamic and highly professional organization experiencing exponential growth. The Regional Director of Operations will be based in Washington DC, and have principal responsibility for the leadership of assigned overseas field offices (FOs) and casework alliance partners (CWAs).
Responsibilities
Leadership:
- Direct IJM’s Latin America FO and CWA efforts to provide tangible relief and restoration to victims of abuse, to bring perpetrators to account, and to ensure that public justice systems effectively and sustainably protect the poor from targeted abuses;
- Mentor the FO and CWA Directors in all aspects of their work, and especially with field office strategy, casework selection, project development, budgeting, personnel management and training;
- Represent IJM’s intervention programs before government organizations, media outlets, Christian churches and para-church entities; and
- Participate in on-site investigations of allegations of human rights abuses in foreign countries, as needed.
Management:
- Ensure accomplishment of the region’s project/casework goals and other strategic objectives as agreed upon with the Vice President of Field Operations;
- Ensure that FOs are aware of, and adhere to, all organizational policies, procedures, and deadlines;
- Regularly report the progress of FO and CWA programs using organization templates and timelines;
- Manage the establishment of new FOs, including site assessment and selection, hiring and training FO staff, setting mission goals and strategies, forming key constituent relationships, and traveling to the host country as needed;
- Manage Field Office Directors and HQ-based Regional Program Specialists directly, including periodic goal setting, performance review and conflict resolution;
Program Development:
- Guide FO and CWA staff in the design and development of casework and justice sector projects that are supportive of IJM’s mission and in line with IJM’s investigation strategies, justice policy, and justice program framework;
- Contribute to the development and review of FO-level project documentation, including concept notes, proposals, baseline terms of reference and budgets;
- Support efforts to ensure adequate funding for Latin America programs from both private and institutional donors;
Required Skills and Experience
- Juris Doctor degree (or international equivalent) or a Master’s Degree in International Development; candidates with a Juris Doctor (or international equivalent) and litigation experience will be given strong preference;
- Minimum of five years experience in successfully leading and managing teams of professionals; experience managing international teams and/or cross cultural teams and a proven ability to supervise the work of lawyers, investigators, social workers and administrators strongly preferred;
- At least two years experience living and/or working in the developing world; experience working in Latin America strongly preferred;
- Bilingual in written and oral Spanish and English;
- Significant experience designing, managing and evaluating programs;
- Demonstrated ability to conceive, articulate and execute legal, investigative or development strategies;
- Demonstrated diplomacy in professional and cross-cultural settings;
- Experience managing a departmental budget or comparable financial management experience;
- Ability to communicate, coordinate, and build relationships with developing world ministries, churches, fellowships, parachurch organizations and media; and
- Experience serving as a spiritual leader and mentor.

Travel Requirements
- Significant travel to Latin America (roughly three months per year).
