The Mission

The mission of International Justice Mission is to protect people from violent forces of injustice by securing rescue and restoration for victims and ensuring public justice systems work for the poor.

The Need

IJM is a dynamic and highly professional organization that is experiencing rapid growth and an ever-increasing volume of casework. The IJM office in Kolkata, India is seeking to hire a Social Worker to assist in developing, coordinating and implementing IJM’s aftercare strategy. The Social Worker will ensure that all individuals rescued from oppression can receive appropriate, sustainable, victim-specific, rehabilitation. This position is based in Kolkata, West Bengal and requires significant travel throughout West Bengal.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Director of Aftercare to develop, coordinate and implement IJM’s aftercare strategy;
  • Develop and oversee IJM’s relationship with local long-term aftercare facilities; partner with facilities to ensure that clients receive quality, professional care;
  • Serve as first point of contact for newly rescued victims; guide them through the police testimonial; and see to their safe and smooth transition into a high quality aftercare home;
  • Conduct routine visits to the aftercare homes to monitor and evaluate client progress;
  • Act as a community liaison for IJM throughout West Bengal; develop and maintain strong relationships with government leaders and NGOs;
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information;
  • Maintain organized and detailed records of aftercare information;
  • Participate in prosecutions and serve as a complainant or witness when needed; and
  • Carry out an additional portfolio of assignments given by the Director of Aftercare.
Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience working with victims of sexual abuse;
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or other related field; Master’s in Social Welfare or Psychology preferred;
  • Prior experience working with various government social service programs and NGOs working in West Bengal;
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Bengali; ability to speak and write Hindi preferred. and
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite Software, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
