The Mission

The mission of International Justice Mission is to protect people from violent forces of injustice by securing rescue and restoration for victims and ensuring public justice systems work for the poor.

The Need

International Justice Mission is a dynamic and highly professional organization that has experienced high-speed growth and an ever-increasing platform of work. We are seeking a qualified Investigator to conduct and oversee criminal investigations. The Investigator will be based in Kenya, and will be responsible for investigating violations of human rights, ensuring the security of victims and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate all cases referred to IJM by referral partners, individuals or IJM Kenya staff;
  • Investigate cases developed through undercover work or information received from operatives/informants;
  • Examine crime scenes and investigate acts of injustice against citizens, property, staff or assets;
  • Assist police in the apprehension and/or prosecution of all perpetrators;
  • Assist IJM clients or staff during interviews with the police or other agencies;
  • Liaise with law enforcement agencies (police, prisons, Defense Force) regularly with regard to crime tendencies, criminal activities (within IJM’s mandate), security and safety issues that may pose a threat to IJM assets, staff or clients;
  • Complete detailed investigation reports in a timely and thorough manner; submit reports to the Director of Investigations for review;
  • Maintain detailed log of cases and incidents reported and investigated; and
  • Maintain up to date electronic records on all case files and related materials.
Required Skills and Experience
  • A minimum of five years of experience in criminal investigations with a public law enforcement agency, private investigative or security firm, or military or national security agency;
  • A minimum of three years of general investigative experience, including undercover or special operations assignments;
  • Proven ability to develop and conduct investigations of criminal activity by public officers or officials;
  • Experience building teams and managing investigations;
  • Proven critical thinking and problem solving skills;
  • Service (volunteer or otherwise) with churches or Christian fellowships in Kenya;
  • Computer literate; and
  • Valid driver’s license.
Critical Qualities
  • Mature orthodox Christian faith as defined by the Apostles’ Creed;
  • Ability to communicate, coordinate, and build relationships with Christian ministries, churches, law enforcement fellowships of the Christian community in Kenya;
  • Works well under pressure;
  • Proven experience in creative analysis of investigative problems;
  • Attention to detail; and
  • Effective time manager.
Travel Requirements
  • This position requires full-time residence in Nairobi, Kenya. Sporadic travel to other parts of the region may be required.
