The Mission
International Justice Mission Canada is a Christian human rights agency that exists to rescue victims of violence, sexual exploitation, slavery and oppression. The agency documents and monitors conditions of abuse and oppression, educates the church and public about the abuses, and mobilizes intervention on behalf of the victims.
The Need
IJM Canada is seeking a qualified and energetic professional to cultivate relationships with major donors and key churches in western Canada. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of building relationships with high net worth individuals and influential churches, and converting those relationships into tangible financial support.
Responsibilities
Donor Relations
- Develop, implement and evaluate strategies to achieve the annual fundraising goal for the region of $500,000;
- Research, identify and build relationships with individuals, foundations and churches with significant financial giving potential;
- Cultivate relationships with existing donors to increase funding levels; network with existing donors to meet new potential donors and convert those relationships into tangible financial support; develop and evaluate programs to recognize, thank and educate current donors; and
- Effectively use Raiser’s Edge technology and other resources to assess giving potential, and track donor communications and progress toward fundraising goals.
Church Relations
- Initiate and implement strategies for raising the positive profile of IJM among leaders in the Christian community;
- Build relationships with church leaders across denominations and demographics, resulting in model church partnerships; gain speaking engagements for IJM; raise funds, enlist volunteers, recruit prayer partners, and creatively establish other avenues for churches to partner with our work;
- Articulate effectively, intelligently, credibly and passionately the story of IJM, the nature of international human rights work, and the biblical call to seek justice to a wide variety of constituencies.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, theology, or another related field;
- A minimum of three years’ experience successfully raising over $500,000 in annual funding from major donors and/or partner churches;
- Strong track record in developing relationships with donors from various constituencies, including persons of influence and affluence;
- Experience promoting fund development efforts for a wide area, including the tracking and reporting of progress towards goals;
- Proven ability to develop and deliver compelling communications to a variety of audiences and individuals;
- Experience in relating skillfully and sensitively to the Canadian church community and international organizations, including para-church organizations, relief and development NGOs, and international human rights organizations;
- Experience in international Christian ministry and exposure to human rights work preferred.

Travel Requirements
- Position based in or near a major city in western Canada where the candidate has significant donor contacts. The position will require 60% travel—primarily domestic travel throughout the region, with regular visits to IJM Canada’s headquarters in London, Ontario, occasional visits to IJM’s international headquarters in Washington, DC, and some international travel.
