  • THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF MARK TWAIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL implemented the Loose Change to Loosen Chains campaign and became new millennium abolitionists and human rights activists. Eleven-year-old Miranda Shines said that after learning about kids her age in slavery, she was upset, 'Because they have to work long hours even though it’s the 21st Century.' She said that doing Loose Change, 'makes a lot of difference for these kids, because we get to help them actually have fun and go to school.'
  • After completing The Justice Mission curriculum, this youth group began speaking in various Sunday School classes about slavery, the work of IJM and the Loose Change to Loosen Chains (LC2LC) campaign. In total, nine other schools and churches decided to join their LC2LC drive. The campaign lasted for four months, ending with a “Rock for Justice.” This concert event included bands, guest speakers and an art event which allowed students with all varieties of skills and passions to be involved with the work. This group of only 21 young people was able to reach over 1,000 students between all of the schools and churches and the campaign raised over $13,000! Their Loose Change campaign has now become an annual event.
IJM believes that justice is an essential part of the Christian faith, so we are dedicated to helping younger children learn about God’s heart for justice. In order to provide resources that are age appropriate, the majority of children’s resources will focus on slavery.

Loose Change to Loosen Chains (LC2LC) is a student-led campaign for elementary to college students to combat modern-day slavery while learning about the reality of injustices today. According to Real Simple magazine there is $10.5 billion in loose change lying around American households. Imagine what you could do if you were to collect even just a fraction of this amount and use it for a good cause!

IJM will use the money donated through this program to rescue victims of slavery and other forms of oppression. You can order LC2LC logoed cups to collect change and build awareness for the campaign.
