Field Office Fellowships - Open Positions

Fellowship positions require participation in the IJM Training Week held every January, June and September at IJM’s headquarters in the Washington, D.C. Participants will deploy to their field office assignments no later than one month following Training Week.

Please periodically check this page for updates. Positions and specific job descriptions are subject to change due to the evolving needs of IJM offices. Candidates are strongly encouraged to be open to as many placement options as possible, especially when positions are available at more than one field office.

Aftercare Fellowship

Job Responsibilities

Aftercare fellowships will involve most of the following responsibilities. Other relevant duties will be assigned by the Field Office Director.

  • Conduct research and impact assessments on how IJM interventions affect IJM clients
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with aftercare providers
  • Draft best practices for rehabilitation and reintegration of IJM clients
  • Coordinate and evaluate the effectiveness of aftercare home projects
  • Travel with IJM staff to meet with IJM clients and work with area leaders
  • Assist in the continued development of a comprehensive aftercare strategy for IJM

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in social work or equivalent experience strongly preferred
  • Experience or exposure to program design and development
  • Training or experience in counseling
  • Experience addressing poverty and livelihood issues
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred for Latin American offices
  • Fluency in French preferred, but not required, for Rwanda field office

Legal Fellowship

Job Responsibilities

Legal fellowships will involve most of the following responsibilities. Other relevant duties will be assigned by the Field Office Director.

  • Research legal issues and write briefs that will assist in rescuing and protecting victims of trafficking and forced labor
  • Assist in developing best practice documents based on casework experience
  • Assist with legal training sessions
  • Input case details into Casemap Software Program
  • Participate in legal strategy meetings
  • Participate in rescue planning sessions

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Law school graduate
  • Experience in practicing law strongly preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish required for Latin American offices
  • Fluency in French preferred, but not required, for Rwanda field office

Communications Internship/Fellowship

Job Responsibilities

Communication fellowships will involve most of the following responsibilities. Other relevant duties will be assigned by the Field Office Director.

  • Serve as an internal, entrepreneurial reporter to capture the stories and news items that describe the work of IJM.
  • Identify and develop stories about IJM programs to be used for a variety of mediums.
  • Check facts and use research skills to help put IJM’s work into regional and global context.
  • Build relationships with key local media.
  • Create and maintain press release list with local and national newspapers and magazines.
  • Travel, as needed, to meet with IJM field staff to gather stories and news items.

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • College graduate
  • Prior work experience in communications
  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Windows XP
  • Experience networking with International and National NGO’s, CBO’s, faith-based communities, and local government
  • Oral fluency in Spanish strongly preferred for Latin America field offices

Business Relations Fellowship

Job Responsibilities

The Business Relations Fellowship will involve most of the following responsibilities. Other relevant duties will be assigned by the Field Office Director.

  • Research possible business opportunities for clients and develop a business model
  • Provide job skills training for clients and families
  • Mobilize local business stakeholders in providing job placements for IJM clients.
  • Conduct a survey and analysis of corporate social responsibility programs within IJM’s target industries.
  • Organize business stakeholder meetings as a forum for socially-minded businesses to learn more about partnership opportunities with IJM and other anti-trafficking organizations.

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Masters Degree in Business Administration plus business development and management experience OR
  • Bachelors Degree in a relevant field plus extensive business development and management experience
  • Experience with social enterprise development preferred
  • Oral fluency in Spanish required for/in Latin America offices

Information Systems Internship/Fellowship

Job Responsibilities

Information Systems interns participate in supporting local staff in a variety of their IT needs. This is a great opportunity for a Christian technology person to get exposure to a fairly advanced, very disparate, IT Operation. Although tasks vary depending on the nature of the work in progress during the internship, depending on skills, interns can expect their tasks to include:

  • Building of new laptops/desktops,
  • Handling user issues in the field,
  • Supporting and training national staff in IT issues, and
  • Involvement in development of specific projects at the direction of Headquarters IS department

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Experience in Microsoft products such as Office, XP, Vista and ideally SharePoint.
  • Recent graduates, and graduate students with some classes in Information Technology

Investigation Fellowship

Job Responsibilities

The Investigation Fellowship will involve most of the following responsibilities. Other relevant duties will be assigned by the Field Office Director.

  • Assist in analyzing intelligence data and reviewing case files;
  • Assist investigators in compiling information for case files;
  • Provide training to build capacity and advance criminal investigations;
  • Develop best practices and procedures for the investigations team and
  • Build relationships and develop professional training workshops for local police officers as needed through IJM or partner organizations.

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Bachelors Degree in a relevant field plus leadership and management experience;
  • Experience with local or federal law enforcement;
  • Oral fluency in Spanish required for/in Latin America offices.
