Education

Applicants must have completed at least five semesters of undergraduate study and must be majoring in the field of study with which the internship is associated.

Christian Faith

IJM requires all interns to possess a mature orthodox Christian faith as defined by the Apostles' Creed.

DC Program Components:

• Training week: The program begins with a required week of training held at IJM headquarters in Washington, D.C. The training sessions are led by IJM’s senior leadership and staff. During this time, trainees will learn about IJM’s history, spiritual foundations, corporate philosophies, legal and investigative strategies and current global operations.
• Work Hours: IJM DC interns normally work from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday - Friday. The interns have five personal days to use as they wish during their internship.
• Mentoring: Interns are teamed with an IJM senior staff member who will meet with them weekly throughout the internship to answer questions, offer career and spiritual advice, and to help them get the most out of the program.
• Seminars: IJM offers regular seminars to further educate interns on topics such as resume and job interview strategies, public speaking, project management, spiritual growth, preparation for law or graduate schools, career guidance and more.
• Prayer: IJM staff members and interns join together daily for a corporate prayer time to empower and protect IJM team members around the world as we intervene on behalf of the oppressed. Interns also join with IJM staff during a quarterly prayer retreat, a day when IJM pauses for extended prayer, reflection, fellowship and worship.
• Other activities: Interns participate in IJM-sponsored social events, advocacy events (depending on availability), and have lunch sessions with IJM staff to discuss a variety of subjects regarding both personal and professional growth.

Expenses

The positions are unpaid. We encourage applicants to view these positions as opportunities to gain professional skills in preparation for their career or further studies. We will work with your school to discuss the feasibility of giving you credit(s) for your time with us. You may raise funds to cover the cost of your travel to Washington D.C. and your general monthly living expenses while interning with IJM if your home is not the Washington DC metro area. Since IJM is a non-profit charitable organization, U.S. tax payers can receive a tax-deductible receipt from IJM when they donate funds to support these costs for an IJM Associate.
