Student Leader: Mallery Thurlow
The Campus Chapter at Cornerstone University has been active since the fall of 2005. In the fall of 2006, the group organized an event to raise awareness and funding to fight modern-day slavery. Three chapter members were symbolic "slaves," making bracelets and not allowed to speak. Once a "slave" was able to raise $30, they were "freed" and replaced by another student.
While those in "slavery" made bracelets, two other members of the chapter were at a nearby table providing information about modern-day slavery. When someone donated money, they received one of the bracelets and were encouraged to pray for victims around the world. Working all day, the chapter was able to "free" six slaves total and raise $260 – money that will enable IJM to bring relief victims of slavery.
