Diep*’s Story: Cambodia
At 11 years old, Diep was trafficked to a bar in Phnom Penh, where she was forced to provide sexual services to the bar’s customers. However, after IJM conducted an undercover investigation of the establishment and provided proof that the owner was holding Diep and several other minors in prostitution, Cambodian police intervened, releasing Diep and the other girls. IJM Cambodia’s legal team fought hard in court, and the perpetrators were sentenced to six years in prison. Diep now lives in a loving aftercare home, where she is enjoying school and the tailoring vocational program in which she is enrolled. She has made several close friends at the home and is dreaming of sharing an apartment with them once they have completed their educations and vocational training.
