Grant Compliance Accountant
The Mission

The Need

IJM is seeking a Grant Compliance Accountant to help manage the financial activity of the organization. The successful candidate will be proficient in implementing and administrating grant compliance and reporting requirements with a meticulous attention to detail.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Financial Grant Manager in the administration and financial management of US Federal grants, establishing procedures for opening and closing grants, assigning grant codes, preparation of interim and final financial reports required by the rules and regulations;
  • Review monthly field office financial reports in compliance with IJM’s Field Office Finance Manual, assuring the proper substantiation for expenses has been provided and that approvals and allocations have been documented;
  • Prepare journal entry imports from field office financial records, calculate currency conversions and verify charges to projects for consolidation into HQ’s General Ledger;
  • Monitor overseas offices, securing full inclusion of data into the accounting system, analyzing entries and their placement in the financial statements, tying balance sheets in local currencies to our financial statements in US dollars;
  • Document feedback to field offices regarding questions or points for improvement on monthly financial reports and help ensure all points are resolved by field office accountants;
  • Provide financial management and analysis support by communicating to staff who should charge the grants and provide assistance in tracking project costs;
  • Analyze cash burn rates and cash flow requirements for Federal grants;
  • Request extensions, carryovers and budget amendments;
  • Evaluate reports and expenses to determine compliance with grant terms and regulations;
  • Assist with the grant closeout procedures in accordance with the rules and regulations;
  • A-133 Audit preparation and implementation with the auditor; and
  • Ensure compliance with record retention policy and OFAC procedures stipulated by the grantor.
Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or Accounting;
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP, such as debits and credits, cash versus accrual accounting, depreciation methods;
  • Minimum 2 years experience with USG grant management or as an A-133 auditor; international experience preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and administrate grant compliance and reporting requirements;
  • Experience with budget proposals to Federal awarding agencies;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain Excel spreadsheets;
  • Accounting software experience with general journal entries, correcting entries, cost allocations and reporting; and
  • Exceptional ability in written and oral communications.
