Call + Response - Answer the Call

Today, millions of children, women and men are victimized by slavery. Stand with us in the fight to set them free – become a modern-day abolitionist.

With the release of Call + Response on October 10 in theatres across the country, and the European Union Anti-Trafficking Day on October 18, this fall is the time to rally your community to stand up for the rights of the millions victimized by slavery.

6 Things You Can Do To Join the Modern-Day Abolitionist Movement

1 - See Call + Response

Grab five friends and see this feature "rockumentary" that mixes music and commentary from experts and advocates to uncover modern-day slavery. Tickets and theaters: www.callandresponse.com

2 - Educate Yourself and Others

Public ignorance and apathy are traffickers’ greatest assets. Host a screening of We Were Free, IJM’s mini-documentary about the realities of human trafficking. Start a book club and read Just Courage by IJM President Gary Haugen. Create an IJM Campus Chapter at your school. Explore www.ijm.org for ideas to GET INVOLVED.

3 - BECOME AN IJM FREEDOM PARTNER

Become intimately involved with the world of IJM by investing in specific areas of our abolition work. Quarterly podcasts and vodcasts from Gary Haugen and our staff in the field will keep Freedom Partners updated on important developments in their areas of investment. Join IJM’s global fight against slavery and violent oppression in a way never before possible.

4 - BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION

Visit the Call + Response Web site (www.callandresponse.com) and fund an interactive field project that supports IJM in rescuing victims of forced labor slavery. All profits from the use of the film, DVD, soundtrack, and iTunes downloads go directly to this project and several others combating slavery around the world.

5 - DEMAND CHANGE

Let your elected officials know that the victims of human trafficking matter to you. Ending human trafficking won’t be a legislative priority until your representatives know votes depend on it. Give a voice to the voiceless victims. Visit IJM’s Justice Campaigns to get started.

6 - CONNECT ON THE WEB

Be active on the Call + Response Web site, link to International Justice Mission on Facebook or Myspace, and access the many e-resources of organizations that fight trafficking. Be an online power actor to change.

How does IJM respond to modern-day slavery?

IJM intervenes on behalf of individual victims of human trafficking around the world; but we don’t act alone. Using a collaborative casework model, IJM partners with local authorities to secure the protection of the law for trafficking victims. IJM investigators, social workers and lawyers work to ensure that victims are freed, that their needs are met as they begin new lives in freedom, and that their perpetrators are prosecuted under local laws.

By freeing victims and prosecuting their perpetrators, IJM operations increase the risk and decrease the profitability of trafficking. We believe that this holistic approach will lead to the structural transformation the poor desperately need in a way that unilateral action or victim buy-outs can’t.

In our ten years of work in the field, we’ve learned many lessons. The most important thing we’ve learned comes from the thousands of victims we’ve assisted themselves: healing and hope are possible. Join us in the fight.
