Rice Mill Rescue Operation Frees 22 Forced Laborers

CHENNAI, INDIA – Late this September, Indian government officials partnered with International Justice Mission Chennai to conduct an operation at a MBS Kalam, a rice mill on the outskirts of Chennai – an action which resulted in the rescue of 22 forced labor slaves and their children from brutal conditions.

Former Slaves Commissioned As Community Leaders In IJM Training

CHENNAI, INDIA – For the first time in the field office's history, IJM Chennai convened an ambitious, three-day Leadership Training event to coach new leaders from among freed forced laborers. More than 110 former slaves braved cyclonic weather to attend this landmark event, signifying their successful completion of IJM's 24-month aftercare program.

NAIROBI, KENYA – On May 26, a 78-year-old man named Michael left death row – raising his frail arms in a sign of victory as he slowly but joyfully walked through the Nairobi prison's brightly painted front gates and greeted his family. Michael has spent the past 18 months in prison after being charged with and convicted of Robbery with Violence, a crime that carries the death sentence.
