IJM Kenya: Two Innocent Men Set Free After Three Months in Prison
Thu, 05/03/2012
NAIROBI, KENYA – Yesterday, two innocent men were set free from prison. Three months ago, they were arrested upon a vague suspicion that they might commit a crime in the future. Though they were not charged with a specific crime, they were sent to prison.
Without evidence, they languished in prison for three months. Without an advocate, they would likely remain in prison for months to come.
IJM heard about their story and went to the prison to meet the innocent men. One of IJM Kenya's lawyers advocated for their release, and the men – both fathers – were set free.
One of the men, Simon, was greeted by his wife outside the courthouse. She had given birth to their third child just before he was incarcerated. Now the family begins to rebuild life together on their small farm in the countryside.
