LA PAZ, BOLIVIA - On April 20, IJM Bolivia Field Office Director Jaime Farrant was honored with the “Gold Emblem” award by the Fuerza Especial de Lucha Contra el Crimen (FELCC), Bolivia's special anti-crime police force. The FELCC bestows the honor annually to individuals, police officers and leaders of organizations that are of great assistance to the FELCC in fighting crime. Since IJM Bolivia was established in 2007, the team has made critical strides in partnering with local authorities to protect Bolivia’s most vulnerable people. It is an honor for us at IJM to partner with the police in bringing justice and relief to so many children in need of an advocate. We look forward to working with the Bolivian National Police for years to come in order to achieve our common goal of a society where children are protected, and perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes.IJM Bolivia has two Memorandums of Understanding with the police: one to work together on cases of child sexual abuse and the other to provide training to officers on matters related to crimes against children. Last year, IJM provided training to the Bolivian National Police on human trafficking and sexual violence issues, building capacity within local systems to provide protection for Bolivia’s most vulnerable people. In 2008, IJM Bolivia also secured its first convictions against perpetrators of sexual violence against children. |
