IJM launches new satellite office to combat child trafficking in Samar

Members of one of northern Thailand’s nine hill tribes, Buter and her husband Ahsuer spent years scavenging for food just to have enough to eat to survive. They could not travel to find better opportunities elsewhere in Thailand, and their children couldn’t access the opportunity that education would offer them. Why? Because Buter and Ahsuer – like thousands of other hill tribe members – lacked simple documentation that would entitle them to the basic benefits of Thai citizenship.

IJM Bolivia Director Honored with “Gold Emblem” Award by Bolivian Anti-Crime Force

LA PAZ, BOLIVIA - On April 20, IJM Bolivia Field Office Director Jaime Farrant was honored with the “Gold Emblem” award by the Fuerza Especial de Lucha Contra el Crimen (FELCC), Bolivia's special anti-crime police force. The FELCC bestows the honor annually to individuals, police officers and leaders of organizations that are of great assistance to the FELCC in fighting crime. IJM Bolivia's Director of Investigations also received an "honorable mention" certificate for his specific contributions to combating violent crimes against children.

IJM Aftercare Staff Train Cambodian Police on Victim Care and Social Workers' Role in Investigations

SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA – This spring, IJM continued to host trainings for Cambodian police, equipping officers to respond to the needs of trafficking victims in accordance with international best practice standards.

Though IJM has trained hundreds of police officers, this training broke new ground, with a vital role played by active social workers in IJM Cambodia’s aftercare department. Members of IJM Cambodia’s aftercare team met with officers from Cambodia’s northern provinces to train them on the importance of victim care and the role of social workers in investigations. This marked the first time social workers provided instruction to Cambodian police.
