The Mission
The mission of International Justice Mission is to protect people from violent forces of injustice by securing rescue and restoration for victims and ensuring public justice systems work for the poor.
The Need
IJM is seeking a Regional Director of Church Mobilization in California to cultivate relationships with church leaders to increase awareness about the work of IJM, to consult with churches on concrete opportunities for partnership, to secure financial support from churches, and to mobilize lay leaders to be champions at their churches and within their communities.
The qualified candidate will be an effective bridge builder, administrator and teacher with a proven track record of building partnerships with churches.
Responsibilities
Church Education
- Initiate and implement strategies for raising the positive profile of IJM’s ministry among leaders in the Christian Community;
- Pursue church leaders to acquire speaking engagements for IJM’s President & CEO, IJM’s Senior Vice President of Education, and other IJM speakers. Evaluate each opportunity to determine the best speaker for the engagement;
- Accept church and other related speaking engagements and create materials to engage targeted audiences;
- Articulate effectively, intelligently, credibly, and passionately the story of IJM, the nature of international human rights work, and the biblical call to seek justice to a wide variety of constituencies; and
- Develop and implement a strategy for collecting contact information at church engagements.
Church Partnership
- Convert IJM exposure with California churches into deeper relationships and concrete opportunities for partnership;
- Develop a comprehensive partnership plan with each church that has been exposed to IJM, with the goal of garnering financial, volunteer, and prayer support;
- Work with the National Director of Church Mobilization to establish clear success metrics;
- Work collaboratively with IJM regional directors to determine effective local and international volunteer opportunities for church engagement;
- Manage the growing group of volunteer Justice Advocates in California, Arizona and Nevada;
- Develop model churches in every denomination, demographic and size who can effectively share the story of how they are seeking justice and how IJM assisted them in their efforts;
- Design creative campaigns to engage church members in the prayer partner ministry and the IJM Institute;
- Collaborate with the Church Mobilization team on the development of best practices and portable tools which help churches engage in justice ministry locally and internationally and coach churches in the use of those tools; and
- Collaborate with the Church Mobilization team and the IJM Institute staff to develop and implement a plan to regionalize the Global Prayer Gathering into California in 2010.
Leadership
- Provide the Donor Relations Department with projections on church giving, assist in the execution of Church giving strategy; recruit table hosts for any IJM Benefit Dinners held in California.
- Partner with/assist the Director of Student Ministries in outreach, training and follow up of student groups in the region including:
— Speaking at youth group and college engagements;
— Developing relationships with youth pastors, IJM Campus Chapter leaders, campus ministry leaders, etc., to provide resources, gather feedback and encourage further engagement with IJM;
— Secure funding from youth groups, campus chapters and schools;
— Identify those churches ready for deeper relationship after being involved with the Justice Mission;
— Provide support for HQ staff traveling to the region for key speaking engagements; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the National Director of Church Mobilization.
Required Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated ability to effectively initiate, develop, nurture and maintain one-on-one relationships with church leaders, and various other constituents;
- Minimum of seven years experience experience designing and implementing curriculum for church and college audiences, especially within the evangelical community;
- Proven ability to design multi-faceted programs, manage their execution, monitor their results and make program adjustments as necessary;
- Experience delivering 30-minute (or longer) presentations to audiences in excess of 100 persons;
- Minimum of three years experience providing hands-on training in spiritual formation, inductive and deductive methods for teaching scripture, and leadership development within a Christian context; and
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced theological degree and ordination preferred. Note: Ordained ministers in the Education Division have additional sacerdotal functions in ministering to IJM constituents and staff, including administering the communion sacrament and performing commissioning of employees and volunteers.

Travel Requirements
- Frequent night and weekend travel within the region required, with periodic visits to IJM headquarters.
