Jim Martin
Vice President of Church Mobilization

Jim MartinJim Martin is the Vice President of Church Mobilization for International Justice Mission. IJM is a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local governments to ensure victim rescue, to prosecute perpetrators and to strengthen the community and civic factors that promote functioning public justice systems.

In his role as the Vice President of Church Mobilization, Mr. Martin works to move churches to a deeper level of understanding of God’s heart for justice and to action on behalf of the many victims of injustice around the world. Mr. Martin works with churches of all kinds, from those new to the work of IJM to seasoned partner churches doing the work of justice alongside IJM.

Before joining IJM in 2008, Mr. Martin served as the Pastor of Compassion Ministries at The River Church Community in San Jose, California, where his main tasks included teaching, leading and developing opportunities to mobilize the church in its mercy and justice ministry. During his time at The River Church, Mr. Martin saw the development of a robust international network of partners and projects that intentionally blurred the lines between giver and receiver, transforming both his own church and the churches and partners they worked with in the developing world.

Prior to his nine years at The River Church, Mr. Martin and his wife served college students with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Over the years, Jim has spoken at many churches and mission events and provided training for pastors and lay leaders in Honduras and Peru. Mr. Martin received a B.A. in Education from the University of Massachusetts.

Mr. Martin and his wife Jenna live in the Washington, D.C., area with their three children.
