Because of prayer, lives have changed.
This is true for a wife and mother named Thaiyamma (pictured above).
She and her husband, Devendran, found out their 5-month old daughter Lavanya was ill. They took out a $25 loan from the owner of a wood-cutting facility to help pay for her treatment. Paying back the loan seemed simple, so they began working at the facility to try and pay off the debt with their daily wages. What they thought was a good job quickly turned into a life of abuse. More than 3 years of brutal work in the hot sun, nonstop physical and emotional abuse, and never enough food to eat followed that seemingly insignificant loan.
"We were like dead people living there."
What Thaiyamma didn’t know was that people like you were praying for her all over the world. For strength. For courage. For rescue.
When IJM and police asked those trapped at the facility what had happened to them, it was Thaiyamma who spoke up in strength and courage to tell the truth. She stood in front of everyone and told them about the abuse and torment they experienced. Because of her courage, Thaiyamma’s family along with 12 others were rescued and the facility owner was arrested.
Prayers yield an impact that we can’t even begin to fathom.
Will you pray with us?
