THE MOST VULNERABLE GIRL

Clarisa’s mental disability made her a target for an alleged trafficker in her poor community.

You helped us rescue this vulnerable girl in one of our first-ever cases in the Dominican Republic, and you can do even more with a gift today.

14-year-old clarisa is like many of the girls we’ve met in the Dominican Republic. She’s sweet and friendly, with dreams much bigger than her life in poverty.

But Clarisa is also unique. Due to a disability, she experiences the world much like a 6-year-old does. This innocence left Clarisa vulnerable to shocking abuse: Last year, a man in her dangerous neighborhood raped her many times, and then pimped her to another man. He had a reputation for trafficking young girls this way, and we can only imagine what plans he had for Clarisa.

Her mother, Alma,* remembers distinctly how it affected Clarisa.

"After this happened, she was always in the street. She would run away, and I would have to look for her. She would get angry with me. I didn’t know what had happened."

When Alma found out what was going on, she ran to authorities desperate for help. These anti-trafficking officials called our team. With your help, we rescued Clarisa and brought her to safety at an aftercare home right away. Over the next two weeks, we partnered with authorities to track down and arrest the men who were exploiting her.

You made this critical rescue possible. And you can do even more by giving today. Clarisa’s story is far from over. We need your help to see these men convicted and to help Clarisa heal.

Many more children like Clarisa are waiting to see justice. Your support brings them to safety and stops the abuse. Please help us defend victims of violence around the world.
