PAMPANGA, THE PHILIPPINES – In the Philippines, IJM works closely with the government's Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to ensure sex trafficking survivors get the post-traumatic care and long-term support they need to be restored. On August 1, 2013, IJM Pampanga—IJM's newest office in the Philippines, established just last year—signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the regional branch of the DSWD.
MANILA, THE PHILIPPINES – After two failed attempts earlier this year to rescue teens being trafficked and sold for sex, IJM Manila helped police rescue them and arrest two suspects.
The suspected traffickers did not operate out of a brothel or bar; instead, they would arrange meetings with customers on the street. The suspects are well-connected in Manila, and planning an operation was a challenge. Even though they were selling girls and boys out in the open, the meeting places changed constantly and tracing them was difficult.
CHENNAI, INDIA – Eight years after IJM helped rescue two teenage sisters who were being sold for sex, an Indian court found three traffickers guilty on multiple charges. The traffickers face ten years in prison, and the young women are moving forward to a bright future.
