PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA – Early this morning, IJM worked with police to rescue a girl who was being exploited in a small Cambodian brothel. IJM staff accompanied her to the police station, where she shared about the abuse she had endured.
MUMBAI, INDIA – This week, IJM Mumbai assisted local police to rescue two girls who had been trafficked and sold for sex. The suspected traffickers were arrested during the undercover operation.
The trafficking survivors were first taken to the police station, where an IJM social worker was able to provide support and reassure them they were now safe. The girls started to open up and share how they ended up in the hotel a few hours outside of Mumbai, trapped in an abusive nightmare.
MANILA, THE PHILIPPINES – Late last week, a karaoke bar where minors had been trafficked and sold for sex was permanently closed. "This closure means that no child will ever have to be exploited here again," explained Lawrence Aritao, one of IJM Manila's lawyers.
Local authorities permanently closed a bar that was known to sell minors for sex. IJM helped police rescue girls who had been trafficked there last year, but the bar had re-opened for business the very next day.
MUMBAI, INDIA – In back-to-back rescue operations this week, IJM helped local police to rescue several girls from their suspected traffickers.
First, IJM Mumbai received intelligence of a potential trafficking case: A mother was desperate to save her daughter, anxious that she had been trafficked to a town a few hours away. Although IJM had not worked in the particular region before, the team believed that the intelligence was strong enough – and that the risk to this young girl was great enough – to launch an immediate investigation.
