IJM Kenya: With Girl's Brave Testimony, Abusive Teacher is Convicted

NAIROBI, KENYA – With the brave testimony of 12-year-old Favor* and strong evidence from IJM, a Kenyan schoolteacher has been found guilty of sexual abuse and will now spend 20 years in prison.

The decision was a comfort to young Favor. Now she knows that the abuse she suffered was wrong, and that the justice system can work to protect impoverished families like hers.

NAIROBI, KENYA – Candy-filled piñatas, face paint and plenty of laughter marked a proud day for 25 children this past weekend. The boys and girls – all survivors of sexual assault – celebrated completing IJM's counseling program with their families, IJM Kenya staff and supporters. The graduation commemorated each child's bravery and recognized each family's commitment to helping their son or daughter work through a painful past.

IJM Manila: Australian Doctor Convicted for Sexually Assaulting Six 12- to 15-Year-Old Boys

MANILA, THE PHILIPPINES – After a 3-year trial, an Australian doctor working in Manila with the World Health Organization was found guilty for sexually abusing six Filipino boys. He was also convicted on sex trafficking charges and faces a combined sentence of 10 to 62 years in prison for both criminal cases.

The Philippine National Police contacted IJM in 2009, after they arrested the doctor in the act of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy. Further investigation uncovered the sad truth that the doctor had exploited and abused several other 12- to 15-year-old boys for sex.
