Jonathan and Julie Baker

Jonathan and Julie Baker

Charlottesville, VA
Supporting IJM since 2000

In the late 1990s, when IJM was still on the drawing board, Julie and Jonathan worshiped with Gary and Jan Haugen at Washington Community Fellowship Church (DC). When Gary shared his vision for IJM, Julie and Jonathan were hooked. They currently live in Charlottesville as “empty nesters.” They have six grown (technically) children, three of whom were adopted from Romania, Russia & Ethiopia. They have founded two NGOs, one in their community (Charlottesville, VA) to work with disadvantaged youth and one in Russia to work with orphans with special needs.

Julie has been a high school English Teacher for nearly 30 years and is currently a writer and educational consultant. Jonathan’s career started with management consulting. For the past twenty years, he has been investing in and sometimes building companies, primarily in the renewable energy space. Currently, most of his time is spent advising an African investment firm.

Jonathan and Julie have been on several IJM donor trips (India, Guatemala, Honduras, and Chile), and their daughter was an intern for IJM in the Philippines in 2017. Julie and Jonathan both suspect that at the end of time, they will be remembered merely for being supporters of IJM.
