January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, an issue we fight every day of the year at IJM. Below are five truths about human trafficking we have been sharing this month. Thank you for caring and helping rescue victims of human trafficking around the world.

TRUTH #1

20,000+ children toil on Lake Volta - many have been trafficked

Ghana’s Lake Volta is vital to Ghana’s fishing industry, but it is a hotspot for trafficking young boys and girls to work on the dangerous waters. Your support is helping IJM rescue operations go out on the lake and bring suffering children to freedom. Watch to learn more:

 

TRUTH #2

Girls and women account for 54% of victims of modern-day slavery.

Human trafficking disproportionately impacts the lives of girls and women, many who are forced into the sex trade at young ages. Trafficking of girls and women includes exploitation in brothels, homes and on the internet. Thank you for helping send rescue.
